Windshield replacement and auto glass

We replace windshields and repair auto glass through a mobile glass technician who works out of our shop. Most glass jobs get done at the shop. When your car needs special-order glass, he comes to your home and puts it in there.

How a windshield goes from chip to crack

Most cracked windshields start as a chip. A rock kicked up by a truck on Expressway 83 or I-69C leaves a small star in the glass. Then the glass heats up in the sun, the AC blows cold on the inside, and that little chip starts to run.

Some glass damage can be repaired. A lot of it needs a new windshield. We look at it before we quote it, and the estimate is free.

At the shop, or at your home for special orders

Our glass tech is mobile, but he works out of our shop, so most windshields are replaced there. If your car needs a special-order windshield, he brings it to you and does the job at your home. Call either shop, Mission or Edinburg, and we will tell you which way your car goes.

Special-order glass has to arrive before the job can be scheduled. We let you know when it comes in.

Cameras, rain sensors, and OEM glass

A lot of newer cars have a camera mounted behind the rearview mirror, looking out through the windshield. It reads lane lines and helps the car brake on its own. Some cars also have a rain sensor in that same spot.

On those cars we use an OEM windshield. Aftermarket glass can keep the camera from calibrating correctly, and a camera that can't calibrate can't do its job.

Calibration is a separate step

A windshield replacement does not include ADAS calibration. They are two different jobs. If your car has a camera behind the glass, it needs calibration after the new windshield goes in. That happens at our shop with a calibration technician we work with.

If your insurance covers the windshield, it also covers the calibration and any resets needed to finish the job. If you are paying yourself, ask about both when you call, so the estimate covers the whole thing.

Hail breaks glass too

After the lunch-hour hail on March 26, 2015, the National Weather Service in Brownsville reported cracked windshields along with dented cars around Mission, Alton, and Palmhurst. If a storm cracked your windshield and dented the body, we can take care of the glass and the dents on the same visit to the shop.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

How much does a new windshield cost?

It depends on the car. OEM glass, a camera or rain sensor, and calibration all change the price. We give you a free estimate before any work starts.

Can I get my windshield replaced for free?

That comes down to your own policy, its coverage, and your deductible. Call your insurer, or call us and we will help you check. If insurance covers the windshield, it also covers the calibration and resets.

Can you replace my windshield at my house?

For special-order glass, yes. Our mobile tech brings it to your home. Other glass jobs get done at our shop.

Does windshield replacement include ADAS calibration?

No. Calibration is a separate step, done at our shop. Ask about both when you request the estimate.

Is it legal to drive with a cracked windshield in Texas?

That is a legal question we leave to the police and the courts. What we can tell you: Texas ended the annual safety inspection for most personal vehicles on January 1, 2025, so an inspection station is no longer what catches a cracked windshield. A crack that runs into your line of sight is worth fixing either way.

Do you use OEM windshields?

Yes, on cars with a rain sensor or a camera behind the mirror. Aftermarket glass can keep those cameras from calibrating correctly.

Ready to bring your car in?
